Social media is a key component of our society and is used by a large segment of the population almost daily. According to Demandsage.com, as of January 9th, 2024, 61 percent of the global population have been actively using social media.
Just like the real world, social media creates collectives of people, and has even developed its own “judicial” system known as “Cancel Culture”.
The punishments meted out by cancel culture can be harsh, but the underlying concept of it could be the start of using social media to foster world peace, such as through campaigns, movements, and the sharing of positive messages. Of course, there will always be malevolent individuals accessing social media; however, for the most part, we can harness social media to promote peace.
Social media apps are used by organizations as well as individuals.
True or False? Goldfish Memory
Scientific studies suggest the opposite of the long-held belief that goldfish have a very short memory, demonstrating that their memory is actually rather good for remembering other fish as well as for navigation.
The digital age is upon us and being in its infancy, many mistakes have been made, and there are far more to come. This has tarnished social media’s reputation and created a negative atmosphere around it. This has also created a negative and hateful environment within social media. Furthermore, allowing the wrong individuals to dominate and set standards on social media has further negatively impacted it. Social media is often cited as the cause of many mental disorders, such as bullying and crime, but this can change.
Social media tends to grab onto political and economic issues within certain countries for a week to a month, but like a goldfish, it quickly forgets, and moves onto the next crisis of the month. They have the right idea, but before resolving one issue, they move onto a new one. If we could mitigate this, we could use social media to create campaigns and raise money to fix problems and assist the UN.
As of now, social media exposes other countries and governments for the horrible things they do to their people and others, but this doesn’t stop the issues. Without financial support, and real political help and guidance, it only temporarily fixes issues.
In the future, we can create real change with social media.
