SDC2: Working Towards a Better World
By Mariya Dembytska
The Sustainable Development Committees focus on issues aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Covering six goals in total, delegates collaborate to draft resolutions that address these issues. Delegates in both committees work to find plausible solutions to improve quality of life worldwide through diplomacy and discussion.
The topics in SDC2 relate to SDG 3, SDG 5, and SDG 16. The committee discussed measures to mitigate the spread of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other communicable diseases. Thus, the committee aims to achieve better health and well‑being for all (SDG 3); the resolutions it passed urge implementation of mapping studies and testing programs to monitor diseases and strengthen treatment, a clear example of diplomacy producing actionable solutions.
The second topic focuses on achieving equal gender representation in national parliaments, a step toward gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Delegates proposed ideas such as moving toward equal pay, ensuring access to equal education, and developing public mentorship programs.
The final topic concerns finding lasting solutions to strengthen the rule of law and promote human rights; this directly connects to the goal of peace, justice and strong institutions. Through productive debate and effective communication, delegates urged the elimination of discriminatory laws and greater accountability in judicial systems, ensuring justice and liberty for all.

The delegates and Chairs maintained clear, eloquent communication and a strong sense of decorum and responsibility. Ultimately, the SDGs are an aspirational example of what the UN is striving for to make this world a better place.
The admin panel and lighting team were instrumental to the conference’s success. The admins worked admirably and with good humor; the committee’s collaboration and kindness were evident.
