“Roses are red, violets are blue . . . water comes from the tap, can I get your Snap?”
“Are you a magician? Cuz everybody disappears when I look at you.”
From flirty one-liners to Snapchat requests, flirting at THIMUN has taken on a new dimension. Admins report a surge in “rizzy”—or just plain cheesy—whispers flying across committees, fueling spikes in Instagram followers and Snap streaks.
This is just one example of the MUN pickup lines flooding the conference. After interviewing admins and delegates (who insisted on anonymity), it’s clear that the “roses are red, violets are blue” opening has become popular throughout the conference. Some veteran admins lament that the “creativity of pickup lines has been a little lacking.” Yet, these cheesy pickup lines have been strangely effective.
“Roses are red violets are blue, and I want you”
“Hey I think something’s wrong cuz I don’t have your Insta”
“You must be a P5 nation because you just vetoed everyone else in my heart.”
“Are you the chair? Because you’re ruling over my heart.”
“Are you a resolution? Because you just passed my heart.”
THIMUN romance has not been limited to delegates. Chairs have also received cute comments. Other admins have mentioned that admins are getting some flirty comments as well. Amid serious debates on the future of AI, socioeconomic disparities, and human rights, these interactions are brightening committees. An anonymous delegate from the HRC-1 remarked that living halfway across the world with other delegates “gives you the courage you wouldn’t have if you had to see them every day.” With the added coverage of country names, asking people out at THIMUN becomes a little less scary.
Throughout previous features and articles, human interaction and emotions seemed to be the sole place where artificial intelligence couldn’t touch. However, numerous admins reported that with ChatGPT, “I find a lot of pickup lines from here. GPT is really good at rhyming, and it helps fix up my pickup lines.” Throughout AI-generated or human creativity pickup lines, delegates are forging connections throughout the conference.
