GA3: Its Journey to Diplomacy
By Mateo Lung
GA3, short for General Assembly 3, is one of the largest committees at THIMUN. This year’s theme is culture, encompassing several topics that pertain to social, humanitarian and cultural issues. The committee is focused on addressing early and forced marriage and its implications for the rights of women and children, balancing urban development with the protection of historical and cultural sites and examining the role of education in promoting respect for cultural diversity.
Entering GA3, the buzz and energy from the delegates were palpable. The environment was inspiring and the delegates’ speeches were riveting.

GA3 stood out because of the gravity of the issues discussed and the maturity with which delegates approached them. Conversations about early and forced marriage, cultural preservation and education were not treated as abstract concepts but as real, lived realities affecting millions. It was evident that the delegates had taken time to research their topics deeply, resulting in speeches that combined empathy and critical thinking. This level of engagement elevated the debate, transforming GA3 into a space not just for diplomacy but for genuine understanding and advocacy.

Ultimately, GA3 exemplified what THIMUN aims to achieve: a platform where young people can meaningfully engage with global issues while learning the value of collaboration and respect. Observing the committee reinforced the importance of dialogue in addressing complex humanitarian and cultural challenges. The delegates’ passion, together with the steady guidance of the chairs and the seamless organization behind the scenes, made GA3 a powerful reminder of how impactful youth-led discussion can be when given the right space to thrive.
