Live from the Security Council

The THIMUN 2026 Security Council has been hard at work debating clauses to ensure the safety of the world. Its goal is to maintain international peace and security. Unlike the General Assembly and other UN organs, the Security Council has the exclusive and primary responsibility to determine the deployment of peacekeeping forces.
The THIMUN Security Council consists of five permanent members with veto power (China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States of America) and ten non‑permanent members without veto power. The THIMUN Security Council is composed of double delegations: two delegates from the same school represent each delegation.
This year, the Security Council will discuss the Iranian nuclear power programme, the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and the situation in Ukraine. On Wednesday, members debated growing uranium enrichment levels and undeclared nuclear activities. These developments establish the threat of Iran developing nuclear weapons, which are strictly prohibited. The Security Council is voting on ways to monitor Iran’s advancements and to maintain control over nuclear activity.
